Functional training, in every form

In 2013 we started out as Pisa's first CrossFit box. Since then we've moved away from the brand and broadened what we offer. Functional training (of which CrossFit is the best-known example) is still our heart, alongside hyrox, olympic weightlifting and kids classes. If you're looking for a CrossFit-style drop-in, you'll find it here, as part of a wider path.

Functional

Beginner · Intermediate · Advanced · Athlete

Start from the fundamental movements, then move on to more complex technique and olympic lifts, all the way to competition prep. It's been our heart since day one.

Hyrox

Wednesday 7pm · Woodwork 2.0

Alternate running and functional stations in a fixed sequence — the right prep if you're aiming for a Hyrox race.

Olympic Weightlifting

Technical classes

Work on the snatch and clean & jerk with a dedicated coach who follows your technique, mobility and load progression.

Kids

Mon · Thu 4:45pm — Sat 11am

Movement, play and coordination for the youngest athletes, at the same fixed times every week at Woodwork 2.0.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this sport right for me?+

Yes. The load, reps and complexity of the movements adapt to you, not the other way around. If you've never trained before, you start in the Beginner class; if you already have experience, there's still plenty of room to grow in technique or intensity.

Do I need to already be in shape for functional training or weightlifting?+

No. You train at your own level from day one, even if you haven't trained in years, are overweight, or are coming back from an injury. As your fitness improves, what we ask of you in class changes too.

Is it safe?+

Yes, if you use the right technique. In every class a coach watches the movements in real time and corrects them before a mistake becomes a habit or an injury.

Why do you split classes by level?+

To take you from a simple movement to a complex one without skipping steps. At Woodwork 1.0 the classes are Beginner and Intermediate, at Woodwork 2.0 Beginner and Advanced: in Beginner you work on basic movement patterns like the squat or the deadlift, in the higher levels you tackle olympic lifts and gymnastic movements with heavier loads. Mixed classes bring both levels of a location together in the same slot, each on a WOD scaled to their own difficulty. Moving up a level depends on how much you train, not on how long you've been a member.

How does this improve my physical fitness?+

We train several capacities together — endurance, strength, power, speed, flexibility, coordination, agility, balance — instead of one at a time. After a few months the difference shows outside the gym too: climbing stairs, carrying groceries or chasing after a kid gets easier.

Is this a sport for men? Won't I "get bulky"?+

No. Training with weights tones and defines, it doesn't bulk you up: building the kind of mass you see on bodybuilders takes years of targeted training and a specific calorie surplus, not two or three classes a week. Our classes are mixed, and the women who've trained with us for years are the best proof of that.

Do I need a medical certificate?+

Yes, a non-competitive sports fitness certificate. You can get it directly at either location: Dr. Ranieri Bettini sees patients by appointment and issues the certificate on-site. Ask at the front desk or write to us to book.

What do I need to start Hyrox?+

Nothing, other than the will to run. Hyrox alternates running and functional stations — rower, sled, wall ball, farmer's carry — and the Wednesday class at Woodwork 2.0 works on exactly this alternation, ninety minutes a week. No prior experience needed: you start with the technique of each station, then build the endurance to get you to a real race.

What age can kids start, and is it actually good for them?+

Woodwork 2.0's Kids classes (Monday and Thursday at 4:45pm, Saturday at 11am) are designed for school-age children — ask on-site for the exact age range of the class you're interested in. The World Health Organization recommends at least 60 minutes a day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity for every child aged 5 to 17, and highlights its benefits for fitness, cardiometabolic health, bones, cognitive ability and mood. Our classes are built around that with an age-appropriate format: movement, play and coordination, not a scaled-down adult workout.
